Ayurvedic Body Treatments

Ayurveda is an ancient therapy that utilizes healing herbs to bring the body, mind and spirit into balance with its environment.  Ayurvedic Massage combines massage and ayurvedic oils into this healing spa treatment that are designed to relax, increase circulation and eliminate toxins from the body.  Body treatments that incorporate the ayurvedic massage techniques are Abhyanga, Shriodhara, Swedana and Udwarthana.

Abhyanga is a massage that relaxes the body by utilizing warm ayurvedic massage oils.  This massage has been described as deeply relaxing and it also has a stimulating effect on the immune system.

Shirodhara is conducted in a quiet environment where the client lays supine on a massage table and warm oil is poured over them on the center of the forehead for a period of time and then it is followed by a scalp massage.  This treatment relaxes and reduces stress in the body.

Swedara is an herbal bath treatment that typically occurs after a massage.  It eliminates toxins, increases circulation, opens pores and allows the body to take in the healing qualities of the ayurvedic herbs.

Udwarthana is an ayurvedic herbal paste that is applied to and massaged into the skin.  As the massage continues it encourages the breakdown of fatty deposits on the body and exfoliates the skin.  Powder is applied during the massage to create heat and to increase circulation and remove toxins from the body.

Kapha: Kapha is one of three ayurvedic energies (Vatha, Pitta and Kapha) that require  balance to maintain balanced health.
