Dr. Carolyn’s Naturopathic approach to wellness supports this innate wisdom of your body. During your Initial Naturopathic Appointment with Dr. Carolyn you will be asked to complete Initial Naturopathic intake forms. Upon reviewing these Dr. Carolyn will meet with you an dperform a Nutritional Exam, a detailed health history and a EDS exam. She will recommend a combination of nutritional, homepathic and dietary guidelines uniquely designed to address your personal health care concerns.

Electro-Dermal Screening (EDS) is a non-invasive technology that uses a highly sensitive instrument to measure energetic disturbances in the energetic fields of the body. It tests measurement points on the fingers and toes for all the major organs, tissues, bones, teeth, and the lymphatic, vascular, and nervous systems. An EDS session can tell us where there is the energetic signature of tissue inflammation, degeneration, or damage in an organ or meridian system.

Upon arrival for your initial appointment we will ask you to complete a health history questionnaire. Dr. Shao will then discuss your health history with you. During the interview, Dr. Shao will perform an examination, noting your face color, voice, and tongue color and coating. There are also three pulse points at the wrist of each hand that Dr. Shao will assess to further determine the health of the 12 meridians. Once these steps are completed treatment will begin.

Treatment length varies from 45 minutes to one hour, depending on your needs. Dr. Shao may use the following techniques during the treatment:

•cupping - the application of glass cups to create a suction on the skin. This is to relieve stagnation of qi and blood, e.g. sports injury.
•herbal medicine - Chinese herbs may be recommended in the form of teas, pills, and capsules to supplement acupuncture treatment.
•electrostimulation - provides electrical stimulation to two to four acupuncture needles. Can be used for pain relief and muscle pain.
