Pregnancy and labor massage therapy or bodywork is usually beneficial throughout the
nine months of pregnancy. If the expectant mother has had any complications,
conditions, or is considered at high risk, we ask that she discuss her condition with our
certified pre- and perinatal massage therapist AND with her maternity healthcare
provider.

If no complications occur during the childbirth, postpartum massage can begin 24 hours
after the delivery. If there are complications, or if the delivery was handled via
cesarean section, a written release from the maternity healthcare provider must be
obtained before receiving a postpartum massage.

During the first appointment, a complete health history will be taken, discussing overall
health as well as the progression of the pregnancy. Health history will be updated as
needed during subsequent visits; constant communication between mother and
therapist ensures knowledge of any change in the pregnancy or overall health. As with
all of our treatments, all provided information is confidential and will not be released
without the client’s written permission.

Each massage treatment is designed to meet the specific needs of that particular day
or stage in the pregnancy. The sessions will be modified as needed based on client
feedback. The comfort and safety of mother and child are of utmost concern at all
times of the session. Again, we ask for open communication concerning requested
changes in pressure, speed, or any other aspects of the massage.
